Kepler Biocomputing LLC is pleased to announce our first community software release. Entrez Starter Kit is a collection of scripts for creating a local MySQL database of selected core annotations from Entrez Gene, Homologene, and NCBI Taxonomy. Entrez Starter Kit simplifies the task of creating and updating this local database with a single command that automates the creation of database tables, automates retrieval of the appropriate table files from the National Center for Biotechnology Information, and automates processing of those files and population of the database tables. The Entrez Starter Kit software is licensed under the GNU General Public License, Version 3, and is available via GitHub: https://github.com/KeplerBiocomputing/Community_Entrez_Starter_Kit/releases.
We at Kepler Biocomputing are committed to providing tools to advance education in the STEM disciplines and to provide investigators with rapid entry into original computational biology research.
We look forward to hearing your feedback about this new community resource.
Kepler Biocomputing LLC
Entrez is a service provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) that includes networked access to numerous biological annotation sets, data sets and tools. Kepler Biocomputing LLC is not affiliated with Entrez Gene or the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Rather, the Entrez Starter Kit software was built by us to leverage the freely available annotations and other data provided by Entrez Gene and NCBI over the Internet.
